On Thursday, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lalk Khattar named actor Parineeti Chopra the brand ambassador from the state for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pet project Beti Bachao Beti Padhao . Unfortunately, the move didn't go down too well with the state Health Minister Anil Vij who said he had no idea about the appointment.
We welcome @ParineetiChopra as the brand ambassador for the "Beti Bachao - Beti Padhao" programme, to promote the cause of the girl child.— Manohar Lal Khattar (@mlkhattar) July 16, 2015
Immediately after Khattar's tweet, Vij cited ignorance on any such move being made by the government. He tweeted:
I do not have any information of anybody appointed Brand Ambassodar of my department for Beti Bachao programme - Anil Vij Health Minister— ANIL VIJ Hr Minister (@anilvijmantri) July 16, 2015
Chopra, hailing from Ambala in Haryana, has won several awards, including the Filmfare and National Film Award, a Haryana government release said.
A mega event has been planned in Gurgaon on July 21 to push the campaign to new heights, that will be attended by the actress, it said. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, aimed at ensuring survival, protection and empowerment of the girl child, was launched by Modi from Panipat in the state in January this year.
