Genetic science has evolved over the years and continues to affect human lives with new inventions and research. Sometimes it leads to complicated cases related to human birth and the origin of genes which is unbelievable but true.
In Washington, a man was informed that his unborn twin is the biological father of his son. Sounds extremely foolish but in the first ever reported case, a 34-year-old man has been affected by human chimera — someone with extra genes absorbed from a twin lost in early pregnancy.
Occasionally, cells from the miscarried siblings are sometimes absorbed in the womb by a surviving twin.
According to Buzzfeed , the Washington couple took a paternity test after their son’s blood type didn’t match that of either parent. After giving birth to a child with the help of fertility clinic procedures, they feared that sperm donors could have involved in it.
After conducting a genetic ancestry test it was found that the biological father was actually his son’s uncle.
Only 10 per cent of a genetic match was found between the father and infant. The genes in his sperm were different to that in his saliva and it has been concluded that the father of the boy is effectively the man’s own unborn twin.
It might be an absurd case of human birth involving genes and sperms but it is evident that medical science has come a long way in pursuit of breaking down the complexity involved in it.
