In Mumbai to campaign for BJP, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad made a strange analogy that has people scratching their heads.
Speaking about the country's economic status, he said that 3 Indian movies collectively earned 120 crores in a day and that means the country's economy is fine.
#WATCH Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad in Mumbai: On 2nd October, 3 movies were released. Film trade analyst Komal Nahta told that the day saw earning of over Rs 120 crores, a record by 3 movies. Economy of country is sound, that is why there is a return of Rs 120 cr in a day. pic.twitter.com/fHpTqZJg4w— ANI (@ANI) October 12, 2019
In a report by NDTV, he was quoted as saying:
I was also told that on October 2, which is observed as one of the national holidays, three Hindi movies garnered Rs. 120 crore business on that day. Unless the economy is sound in the country how can only three movies collected so much business in a single day?
The statement understandably started making news and started trending on Twitter very soon.

Lets check the math of your claim.
₹120 crore ÷ ₹200 (average cost of 1 ticket)
= 60 lakh
Out of 133 crore Indians only 60 lakh are able to watch movie in a day.
I believe you will be able to calculate the percentage now.
P.S. its 0.45% Indians only
Man...the days of sholay, deewar... movies used to run for 100, 200 days house full....India must have been paradise then— SecularSena (@SecularSena) October 13, 2019
