Hey it’s December 16. Are we running a story on ‘Nirbhaya’? Any new angle?

Can we do something on how Uber happened so close to the ‘anniversary’?

No.

No, because I don’t want to remember her on this one day and forget her the next. She is every single one of us, when we board a bus, when we walk to our cars in isolated parking lots, when we sell our wares outside a tourist spot, when we are at home, with our families, unprotected.

Yes, there is more sensitivity about rape now. People ARE talking, and maybe, thinking a little more too. It’s a start, and an important one. But a discussion for the sake of marking an anniversary of a horrific rape is NOT the point.

Let’s not glorify rape.

We are raped. Every day. Not just December 16.

One case made us speak up. Good.

But that shouldn’t be all we speak of. Let’s get real.
