Stating that his behaviour in prison has been satisfactory, the Haryana government on Sunday recommended granting parole to Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, which he had asked for, citing 'farming reasons'.
According to Times Now News, the Dera Sacha Sauda chief had himself claimed earlier, that his behaviour in jail 'has been exemplary', thus making him eligible for parole.
Speaking to ANI, Haryana minister, KL Panwar said:
All convicts are entitled to parole after 2 years. If a convict has good conduct in jail, it's mentioned by the superintendent in his report to local police. It goes to Commissioner after verification, he takes the final call.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Ram Chander Chatrapati murder case, was earlier sentenced to 20 years in prison for molesting and sexually exploiting his followers in August, 2017.
More details are awaited and it cannot be confirmed yet whether Gurmeet Ram Rahim will be granted parole or not.
