Shobhaa De is known for not mincing her words and proves it again with her latest tweet on Rio Olympics, where she calls the gifting of BMW cars to Indian athletes as a “great ad” for the automobile company and questions if it’ll be feasible for the athletes to run “these pricey beasts”.
Great ad for BMW. Who will pay for running these pricy beasts? Hoping they don’t become white elephants for athletes pic.twitter.com/MX0od5sTt3

In the same breath, she also raises a “pertinent” question. “Did Sachin actually pay for the BMWs he “gave away” to Rio athletes?” she asks.
Here’s a small, annoying but pertinent question: Did Sachin T pay for the BMWs he ‘gave away ‘ to Rio athletes?

The “master blaster” presented BMW cars to PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik, Dipa Karmakar for their Olympian effort which brought glory to India.
However, several media reports gave a rather misleading headline where it appeared as though it was the “master blaster” who bought these BMWs for them.
The truth is, these luxury cars were purchased by Hyderabad-based businessman Chamundeshwarnath, who also happens to be the president of the district Badminton Association, reports India Today.
Interestingly, four years ago, Tendulkar had present a BMW to ace shuttler Saina Nehwal, who had returned with a bronze medal at the London Olympics.
No surprises there as the legendary cricketer is the brand ambassador for BMW.
