A 16-year-old national level swimmer from has committed suicide by hanging herself in Ghaziabad.
According to a India TV report, the incident took place on Sunday, January 24, late at night when Saira Sirohi, killed herself by hanging on a ceiling fan at her home in Govindpuram in Ghaziabad.
The family discovered that she had committed suicide this morning and no suicide note has been recovered so far. Her father is an employee with the Uttar Pradesh Police.
Sirohi, a student of Dehradun Public School, had won over 100 events at various levels in swimming, Jagran reported.
She also holds a record for swimming 38 km for 15 hours continuously at a swimming event organised at her school. She was eight at the time.
Her coach Raju Chaudhary told Hindustan Times:
“All of us are shocked because she (Sirohi) had very strong willpower. She never got bogged down. She has won nearly 200 medals at various events since childhood. When she spoke to me on Sunday evening, she sounded normal enough. She said she will be concentrating on her studies for her upcoming examinations.”
