Ananth Kumar Hegde, the five-time BJP MP from Sirsi, Karnataka, was booked on Tuesday for making an inflammatory speech, reports Indian Express.

In a press conference on Sunday, Hegde said, “As long as Islam is there in this world, terrorism will be there. Until and unless we root out Islam from this world, terrorism cannot be eradicated.”

The BJP MP also allegedly accused the media of helping terrorists by giving a platform to JNU student Umar Khalid’s father, who was a former member of the banned Islamist student organisation, SIMI.

The Dakshina Kannada district unit of the Youth Congress on Tuesday filed a complaint against Hegde for making “blasphemous and insulting remarks” against Islam and Muslims, reports DNA

Hegde has been booked under Section 295(A) of the IPC for “deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs’’, reports Bangalore Mirror.
