Renowned Italian composer, Ludovico Einaudi has composed a moving piece called, “Elegy for the Arctic” to create awareness about the speed at which glaciers are melting in the region.

But it’s the video that makes the piece truly haunting. Einaudi is seen performing the song while afloat on a small platform in the Arctic Ocean off the coast of Norway, Greenpeace said in its blog.

Every note he plays on his grand piano as the ice keeps thawing in the tranquil atmosphere will surely send a chill down your spine.

Just over 48 hours since the video was released, it has already garnered over 4 lakh views on YouTube.

The entire performance was apparently sponsored by Greenpeace as part of a campaign to persuade world leaders to safeguard the Arctic, reports The Washington Post.

Greenpeace in its blog says, “The timing of Einaudi’s performance is not by chance. This week, delegates at the OSPAR Commission meeting in Tenerife, Spain, have an opportunity to take an important step in protecting the Arctic. The proposal before them would safeguard 10% of the Arctic ocean, an area roughly the size of the UK.”
