Chandan Bose, the prime accused in the Mathura violence case, was arrested from a village in Parsurampur area in Basti district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.
Chandan, identified as the second in command of the Mathura cult leader Ram Vriksh Yadav, was arrested on Wednesday morning along with his wife Poonam by a police team of Mathura from Caithwalia village, Superintendent of Police Kripa Shankar Singh said.
He has been named as one of the three prime accused in the killing of station officer (SO) Santosh Yadav outside Jawahar Bagh camp in Mathura.
Twenty-nine people, including then SP (City) Mukul Dwivedi and Station House Officer (Farah) Santosh Yadav, were killed during clashes between police and encroachers at Jawahar Bagh in Mathura on June 2.
Ram Vriksh Yadav, the alleged leader of Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrahi, which was said to be behind the violence, had died in the clashes with police.
The police officer said both Chandan and his wife will be sent to Mathura for investigation.
Additional Director General (law and order) of Uttar Pradesh Police Daljeet Singh had earlier said that Ram Vriksh Yadav, Chandan Bose, Girish Yadav and Rakesh Gupta are the main culprits in the case.
