Indian pacer Mohammed Shami received dozens of abusive comments from the Muslim community on social media over a dress worn by his wife in a photograph.
On December 23, Shami uploaded a picture of him along with his wife Hasin Jahan on his official Facebook page. However, the picture didn’t go down well with a section of Shami’s ‘fans’ who lashed out at him for allowing his wife to wear a sleeveless dress.
Some users also questioned Shami why isn’t his wife donning a Hijab like many Muslim women.
Liked by more than 37, 000 users, the photo received more than 1,600 comments and got nearly 600 shares.
This screenshot of hateful comments went viral on social media:
Even though many of the comments were abusive in nature, many netizens came in defense of Shami.

The comments are really really Shameful.
Support Mohammed Shami fully. There are much bigger issues in this country. Hope sense prevails. pic.twitter.com/dRJO5WfOgU— Mohammad Kaif (@MohammadKaif) December 25, 2016
Seriously ? This is true ? If so shameful. Not because there are “bigger issues” but because it’s no one’s business. Vile, utterly https://t.co/cQd4eJ4NbR

Shami chose to respond to trolls only three days later, tweeting that it is up to him to decide what’s wrong and right for him and his partner.
