In a shocking incident, a man in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi got his wife killed after she refused to reveal her smartphone’s pass code. He was arrested on Wednesday after he confessed to his crime after days of sustained interrogation, reports Times of India.

The incident took place on the night of August 29, when Vineet Kumar Diwakar, who was apparently miffed with his wife Poonam Verma for keeping the lock code installed on her smartphone a secret, decided to have her eliminated. He hired his friends for Rs 80,000 to do the job and fled away to Kanpur.

He then called his wife from Kanpur, informing her that her friends were coming over and asked her to hand over his computer to them. The two friends, Laxman and Kamal, arrived in the evening and strangled the woman. They raked through the house and got away with the jewellery, to make it look like a case of robbery, reports TOI.

The woman’s body was spotted next day by her four-year-old daughter who raised an alarm.

Jhansi SP Dinesh Kumar Singh told the newspaper that the police zeroed in on Vineet despite his consistent pleas and scanned his call details. He finally broke down on Wednesday and confessed to his crime.

He told the police that his wife started neglecting him and their four-year-old child after she got herself a smartphone last month. She installed a pattern lock on her phone so no one could access it and that made him suspect her.
