In a shocking episode on Sunday, two men were caught racing horses on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. The entire incident, which has been captured in a video that has since gone viral, also shows bikers cheering on the racers, The Times of India reported.

The video, shot by a passerby, shows two stallions – a brown and another brown-white – racing each other.

After the video garnered quite a bit of attention on social networking sites, Gautam Budh Nagar police swung into action and started scanning the CCTV footage of cameras installed on the expressway.

An Indiatimes report stated that the Noida Authority’s traffic cell officials had no information about the horse racing incident, irrespective of the fact that at least 12 officials of the traffic cell are supposed to monitor CCTV footage.

However, the traffic police later said that CCTV footage revealed that the episode occurred around 7.30am on Sunday. Anil Kumar Jha, superintendent of police (traffic) told HT, “We had scanned the footage of CCTV cameras installed on the expressway. The event took place on Saturday morning around 7.30 am near Sector 128. The two horses got on to the expressway near Jaypee Greens Wish Town in Sector 128.”

“We are investigating the matter and the men who were seen in the CCTV footage will also be questioned. We will take necessary action against the offenders,” he told the newspaper.
