According to a report by BBC, Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks co-founder was arrested by the British police earlier today at the Ecuadorean Embassy in London, where he had been living since 2012.

This happened after Ecuador withdrew the asylum granted to him.
The President of Ecuador, Lenín Moreno tweeted:
In a sovereign decision Ecuador withdrew the asylum status to Julian Assange after his repeated violations to international conventions and daily-life protocols. #EcuadorSoberano pic.twitter.com/pZsDsYNI0B

The President further added that Assange had repeatedly broken the embassy’s house rules by installing electronic and distortion equipment and blocking security cameras and the move is in accordance with their commitment to human rights.

Home Secretary, Sajid Javid confirmed Assange’s arrest in the following tweet:
Nearly 7yrs after entering the Ecuadorean Embassy, I can confirm Julian Assange is now in police custody and rightly facing justice in the UK. I would like to thank Ecuador for its cooperation & @metpoliceuk for its professionalism. No one is above the law

Reports suggest that he will face legal proceedings in the UK but could also be extradited to US over the Wikileaks revelations.
