The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has decided to allow women to carry a small knife (upto 4 inches) for self-defence in Delhi Metro, reports Hindustan Times.
A CISF official further added that lighters and matchboxes will also be allowed now.
According to the official, labourers traveling by metro have made repeated requests so as to allow them tools. Considering that, the tools are examined and are accounted for in a register so that it can be traced later in case of a mishap.
However, if the ID of a woman carrying a knife is considered as a security threat, she can be disallowed from carrying it.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) restricts passengers from carrying sharp objects, guns, firearms and flammable items.
