The two medical students who had in a barbaric way, tortured a dog and threw her off the roof were arrested in Chennai on Wednesday, but were later released on bail, reports NDTV.

The NDTV report also states that the two surrendered in front of the police around 12.30 pm on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, animal rights activists are outraged over the two men getting bail and are questioning the rather liberal animal welfare laws, calling it a “black day”.

A couple of days back, a horrifying video of the dog being thrown off the roof of a building in Chennai surfaced on the internet.

After the video went viral, the two were identified as Gowtham Sudarshan and Ashish Paul, both final year MBBS students studying at Madha Medical College in Tamil Nadu, after which they reportedly went absconding as people were gunning for the two to be brought to book for the cruel act.

Fortunately, Activist Shravan Krishnan made an assuaging Facebook post late Tuesday night sharing the good news that the dog is alive and despite all the pain and shock she endured, is still wagging her tail.

She has been named ‘Bhadra’ after goddess Bhadrakali and is currently undergoing treatment at Madras Veterinary College, reports ANI.

Bhadra though out of danger, is still in a state of shock, said Veterinary doctor Jaiprakash, speaking to the India, reports Indian Express.

“It is nothing short of a miracle that the dog survived,” said Antony Clement Rubin, an animal activist.
