You have seen your friends’ Year In Review posts on Facebook. You have wondered how it works. You may even have clicked on it to see what pictures come up if you were to post your own.

And you have bashed it, on Facebook, Twitter, just everywhere.

But did you know that Facebook apologised for it’s Year In Review slideshow? Yep.

“Facebook’s algorithms decided the suggested photos based on the month each photo as uploaded and the number of “likes” they received. The default tagline for the Year In Review slideshow is “It’s been a great year! Thanks for being a part of it.” Unfortunately, many Facebook users had a tumultuous year instead of a “great” year and Year In Review served as a reminder of traumatic circumstances,” reports Forbes .

What this means is that some people were thrown into a disturbingly ‘happy’ mesh of sad things that might have happened in their year. Eric Meyer lost his six-year-old daughter Rebecca to brain cancer a couple of months ago. Facebook algorithms suggested her photo alongside some peppy party theme for Meyer’s Year In Review.

We think it might be time for a reality check, Facebook. Because the people you are catering to aren’t very happy. Here are some people who might agree.

Those who were upset

Those who thought it silly

Those who were annoyed

Those who wanted you to Shut The F*** Up

Those who looked for alternatives

Those who found it plain embarrassing

And those who just sighed

So, next time you want to do a round up of our lives, dear Facebook, please ask us what we’d like in there?

Oh and it might be time for a Facebook internal Year In Review. If you know what I mean.
