Go to school, get good grades, Get a good job and earn a bunch of money. Those were the distinct and paramount goals that society assigned us all since we can recall… and somewhere along the way, we let them become our only goals. Does the endless cycle of routine slowly eat into the other joys of life? Does it distance us from music, colour and love? Sadly, for a lot of us, the answer might be yes.

In a moving animated short, Alike, animators Daniel Martínez Lara and Rafa Cano Méndez brought to life the constant inner struggle between fulfilling our responsibilities and still making room for the things and people that make us truly happy.

This story of a father and his little boy gives us a heart-warming 7-minute lesson in putting up a fight when the daily grind of life starts to make our colours fade away and never letting our happiness and creativity slowly vanish into shades of grey.

I hope the film gives you all something to think about, like it did for me. And I’m not just talking about the heart-meltingly adorable little animated boy… even though, I gotta admit, he’s occupying like 30% of my thoughts right now. Awwwwwww, right?
