Australia lifted their fifth World Cup title after cruising to a comfortable 7-wicket victory over New Zealand in a one-sided final at the MCG on Sunday, April 29.

Electing to bat, New Zealand’s dream final became a nightmare when captain Brendon McCullum got out for a duck. Hero of the semifinal, Grant Elliot, scored a fighting 83 but the Kiwis were all out for 183.

That target was never going to trouble the Aussies even though opener Aaron Finch got out for a duck. Skipper Michael Clarke – who was playing his last match – topscored with 74 as Australia reached 186/3 with 7 wickets and 101 balls to spare.

James Faulkner was adjudged the Man of the Match while Mitchell Starc was named the Man of the Tournament.
