Bangladesh showed the world that making it to the World Cup quarterfinals was no fluke as they downed Pakistan by 79 runs in the first ODI of the 3-match series.

Two of their most prominent batters, Tamim Iqbal (132) and Mushfiqur Rahim (106), put together a 178-run stand to take the hosts to 329/6. The match marked the return of Saeed Ajmal, who ended with his most expensive ODI figures (0/74).

Three Pakistanis, Azhar Ali (72), Haris Sohal (51) and Mohammad Rizwan (67), made half-centuries but that wasn’t good enough to chase down Bangladesh’s highest ever ODI score.

This is Bangladesh’s second win over their fancied neighbours with their first coming 16 years ago in the 1999 World Cup. Pakistan must be wary or else a series loss can’t be ruled out.
