Sania Mirza reached the quarterfinals of the US Open women’s doubles along with her Czech Republic partner Barbora Strycova with a straight sets victory in the women’s doubles event on Tuesday.

The seventh-seed Indo-Czech pair produced a dominating performance, registering a 6-4, 7-5 victory over the American-Japanese pair of Nicole Gibbs and Nao Hibino in the third-round contest that lasted for one hour and 17 minutes.

Mirza and Strycova have now set up a clash against French top seeds Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic for a place in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Rohan Bopanna and his partner Gabriela Dabrowski fought hard before losing in the mixed doubles quarterfinals at the US Open on Monday, leaving Mirza as the only Indian left in the fray.

Bopanna and Dabrowski squandered a set advantage against Canadian Robert Farah and Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germanybefore bowing out 6-1 2-6 8-10 in the super tie-breaker in a gruelling contest that last 58 minutes at Flushing Meadows.

Defending champion Leander Paes and his Swiss partner Martina Hingi shad also crashed out in the second round of the mixed doubles event after losing to American seventh seeds Coco Vandeweghe and Rajeev Ram earlier in the tournament.
