How could Chris Gayle finish his ODI career without a double ton? That milestone was always going to come sooner or later.

Unfortunately for Zimbabwe, it finally came in the World Cup encounter against the West Indies at Canberra. Gayle scored a monstrous 215 off 147 to power West Indies to 372/2.

His double century which came in just 138 balls is the fastest ever in ODIs. This is also the highest score in a World Cup match, surpassing Gary Kirsten’s 188.
Gayle’s knock saw 16 sixes and 10 boundaries. During the knock, he crossed 9000 runs in ODIs.

He received due support from Marlon Samuels who scored 133. His partnership of 372 runs with Gayle is the highest in ODIs.
Chasing that mammoth total, the Zimbabweans have a herculean task on their hands.
