There is no doubt that Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best the world has ever seen. His 4 Ballon d’Or trophies are testament to that. But there is more to him than just football.

Not very long ago, Cristiano Ronaldo was declared the most charitable athlete in the world

It was 2008, when Ronaldo first conquered the world as a Manchester United player. Only 23, he won his first Ballon d’Or Trophy.

It had to be one of Cristiano’s most prized possessions. As of now, he has 4 in total. So that made him realise he had the opportunity to give one away.

So, the Madrid supremo donated the replica of the first trophy he had won.

Players are given the option of keeping the replica to themselves or giving it to the club. Since Ronaldo had this one in his possession, he decided to take this wonderful selfless step.

The auction was held in London and it raised €600,000, proceeds of which would go to Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Some of the amount will go to better the facilities at the foundation, while the rest would be used to meet the final wishes of terminally ill children.

It is an incredible gesture. Stars like him stepping up to take responsibility is just what we need. They have the resources to make the world a better place.

You can hate him if you want. But there’s a reason he’s still one of the most popular athletes on the planet.

Couple of weeks ago, Ronaldo had sent a tribute to a young fan who died in the Mexico earthquake.

Regardless of what people may think of him, he does what he thinks is right. This time around, it’s hard to argue that he did not.

Football is lucky to have him, but Cristiano Ronaldo has once again proven to be more than just a player.
