Cricketers, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya have been dropped from the squad for the 1st ODI against Australia, following their sexist remarks on Koffee With Karan.
According to NDTV, both the players are also to be issued a fresh show-cause notice before a formal inquiry begins.
According to NDTV, the Indian team management will also be taking a call on whether they want to keep both the players with the team or send them back.
The decision to drop them came after CoA official Diana Edulji had recommended suspension till further action was taken against the two.
She had initially suggested a two-match suspension but had later referred the matter to the legal cell after Vinod Rai agreed with her.
Her response to the legal opinion read:
It is imperative that players be put under suspension till further course of action is decided for this misconduct as was done in case of (BCCI) CEO (Rahul Johri) when he was sent on leave on sexual harassment matter.
Earlier Indian captain Virat Kohli had also condemned the said remarks. At a press conference in Sydney on Friday he said:
We as the Indian cricket team and responsible cricketers don’t align with those views, those were individual opinions. We are still waiting for a decision to be made.
He added:
From the Indian cricket team’s point of view, this changes nothing in our beliefs in the change room, it does nothing to the spirit we have have been able to create. Combinations will have to be thought of once the decision comes out.
India plays Australia in the 1st of the three-match ODI series in Sydney tomorrow.
