The third India vs Sri Lanka Test started in an exciting manner on a green SSC pitch but rain played spoilsport and only 15 overs were bowled on the opening day.

The hosts were on top, dismissing the previous Test’s centurions, KL Rahul (0) and Ajinkya Rahane (8), early and pegging the Indian score to 50/2.

The Lankans had a golden opportunity to see the back of Indian captain Virat Kohli but debutant Kusal Perera dropped an easy chance behind the wicket.

India would want Cheteshwar Pujara (19*) and Kohli (14*) to see off the new ball and would want a descent first innings total to hold the Lankans back.
