R. Ashwin produced the best spell of bowling by an Indian in Sri Lanka to rock the islanders and gift the Men in Blue a massive advantage on the first day of the opening Test at Galle.

Angelo Mathews won the toss and decided to bat. The Lankan openers were dismissed early by pacers and Ashwin took over to finish with 6/46. Mathews (64) and Dinesh Chandimal (59) scored fifties for the hosts as they were all out for 183.

India then came on to bat and opener KL Rahul (7) and Rohit Sharma (9) were dismissed quickly.

But Shikhar Dhawan (53) and captain Virat Kohli (45) steadied the ship and took the score to 128/2 at the close of play. India trail Lanka by 55 runs and will look to take a huge lead on Day 2.
