Mahela Jayawardene scored his 19th ODI century to help Sri Lanka to a nervy 4-wicket win in their World Cup encounter against Afghanistan.

Batting first, Afghanistan had posted 236/6, thanks largely to Asghar Stanikzai’s 54.

But chasing that total, Sri Lanka were reduced to 2/2. They tried to recover but were then reeling at 54/4. An upset seemed on the cards!

That is when Mahela Jayawardene took over. He scored exactly 100 to bring SL closer to victory. After his departure, it was still nervy with 55 needed off 52 balls. But Jeevan Mendis and Thisara Perera brought Lanka home with 4 wickets and 10 balls to spare.
