Claudio Ranieri was shockingly sacked as Leicester manager on Thursday, less than a year after guiding the 5,000-1 outsiders to a remarkable Premier League title.
The Foxes are in 17th place after their title-winning season, with 13 games to go, and only a point above the relegation zone. And even though most sackings in such a situation would not raise eyebrows, Ranieri’s historic achievement meant that he deserved better.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news…

Ranieri’s miracle reminded us why we love sport. The magic, escapism, wonder. His sacking now underlines its cut-throat ruthlessness.

After all that Claudio Ranieri has done for Leicester City, to sack him now is inexplicable, unforgivable and gut-wrenchingly sad.

The Ranieri sacking is the most shameful dismissal I’ve ever seen in Football.

Ranieri: outrage when he was appointed; outrage when he was sacked. In between – outrageous.
