The first Test between India and Sri Lanka saw a world record as India’s Ajinkya Rahane took 8 catches to become the first non-keeper to hang on to so many catches in one Test.

The previous best was 7 catches, taken by as many 5 international players: India’s Yajurvindra Singh , Australia’s Greg Chappell and Mathew Hayden, NZ’s Stephen Fleming and SL’s Hashan Tilakaratne.

Rahane couldn’t open his account in India’s first innings but contributed brilliantly in the field to get a world-record to his name.
