The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman on Tuesday appointed former team director Ravi Shastri as India’s head coach. The panel also appointed Zaheer Khan as India’s coach bowling coach and Rahul Dravid as the batting consusltant, which the the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) feels was outside CAC’s purview.

According to a report in the Times of India, the panel of former cricketers was advised to only invite applicants for the post of head coach. And they had no mandate to appoint support staffs.

“We are going to be looking at this very seriously. They have clearly gone beyond the brief,” a COA member told the publication.

The normal practice for long has been for the head coach to select his own support staff.

Meanwhile, Shastri is likely to pitch for for the return of bowling coach Bharath Arun despite the presence of Zaheer Khan in their ranks – who he wants to work as a consultant.

Arun had replaced Joe Dawes in 2014 and was there with the Indian team till 2016 when Shastri was dumped.
