Most emotional match point of the day that I saw…India’s Sumit Nagal. Great crowd support and you could tell what the moment meant for him. Saw another tweet say that he was only the 5th Indian man to make a GS main draw in a decade. #USOpen pic.twitter.com/HZkR3NDZhU

And, in what can undoubtedly be called a dream Grand Slam debut, he drew 20 times Grand Slam champion Roger Feder as his opponent for the first clash.

Just the sort of news one wants to wake up with:

Sumit Nagal has qualified for main draw of #USOpen with 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 win over World No. 192 Joao Menezes in final Qualifying round.
And guess what: He will face Roger Federer in main draw R1.
Absolute magic pic.twitter.com/6ujjTLJY8h
Only 22 years old, Sumit Nagal is the youngest Indian to feature at the US Open in the last 25 years. Despite losing the first set against Menezes, he made an astonishing comeback with 6-4, 6-3 in the final sets.

Ranked 190 in the world, Sumit Nagal – who is the 2015 Wimbledon junior boys doubles champion – is the second Indian to qualify for the US Open 2019, after Prajnesh Gunneswaran.

Many people took to Twitter to congratulate the young player.
