The first thing you need to know about the monster, is this –

Now that that’s cleared up. Let’s get into the details of the electric supercar, the second generation Roadster.

Elon Musk hasn’t confirmed the top speed of the car, but he said that it will be above 250 mph, which might make it the fastest production car.

The car was a surprise revelation during the unveiling of the Tesla semi-truck. He quipped, “Turns out there was some cargo in the truck, we thought we’ll bring it out.”

It is of course an all-wheel drive. It has 3 motors – one in front, two in the rear. The car is supercharged by a 200kwh battery, which can run for a 1000 km on a single charge. Talk about efficiency!

Musk said, “The point of doing this is to give a hardcore smackdown to gasoline cars.”

Everybody loves the sustainable energy angle. There is no doubt that the sports car industry will be sweating right now. The new Roadster, if all the claims and numbers are to be believed, can be a huge threat to their market.

The Roadster seems like it has taken the best of everything – The Aston DB 10’s tail, Merc’s cockpit, Buggati Chiron’s lights.

Then it decided on going one step further. That’s what the Roadster 2nd gen is all about. Not to forget, unlike many, this is a four-seater.

All other super hybrids cost over a million dollars. But the Roadster will loosen purse-strings only one-fourth the amount. That’s right. The price is set at $200,000 with a $50,000 deposit for initial booking.

For the $250,000, the first 1000 models will be the Founder’s series. Any admirers, with money, of sports cars are bound have their interests piqued.

The Roadster was first launched in 2008 and its production stopped in 2012. The new ones are set to roll out in around 3 year’s time.

Again, there is no conformation on delivery dates yet. People present at the unveiling had the option to book their rides then and there. Regardless of the time they’ll have to wait, this beauty will surely be worth it.
