2. Quibble Island, Tamil Nadu

It is a river island formed by the Adyar River and one of its tributaries. Even after being situated very close to Chennai, this island is far away from the haste of city life.

3. Umananda Island, Assam

5. Netrani Island, Karnataka

This heart-shaped island is also known as ‘pigeon island’ due to presence of a large number of pigeons. This coral island, is one of the best places in India to experience underwater life through snorkeling and diving.

6. Valiyaparamba Island, Kerala

Kavvayi is a collection of small islands in Kannur. It is considered among the most exotic locations in North Kerala. The largest island of Kavvayi is Valiyaparamba and if you are looking for some seclusion in the lap of nature, then this is the place for you.

How to get there: It is 50 km from Mangalore airport. You can take a cab from there.

7. Bhavani Island, Andhra Pradesh

8. Ponnumthuruthu Island, Trivandrum

Located amidst the Anjengo backwaters, it is one of the most beautiful and uninhabited islands in Kerala. The island is also a hub for migratory birds and is therefore a paradise for bird lovers.

How to get there: It is about 5 km from the town of Varkala. You can take a makeshift jetty from the Nedunganda village.

9. Agatti Island, Lakshadweep

The island is picture perfect with a long stretch of white sand, blue seawater and an enchanting scenery. You can ride a bicycle through the island to take in the natural beauty of the place. The seabed around Agatti is said to have a fertile reef offering the best snorkelling opportunities.

How to get there: To visit Lakshdweep, you need to take a tourist permit from Kochi. Agatti has an aerodrome, you can get regular flights from the major cities of the country.

Best time to visit: October to mid-May, avoid monsoons.

10. Hope Island, Andhra Pradesh

This is a relatively new island formed by the separation of a sand bar from the Godavari River. This tadpole-shaped island in the Bay of Bengal provides you the much needed solitude away from the hustle and bustle of the cities.

How to get there: You can take a bus or taxi from Kakinada to the shores, from where you will be able to reach Hope Island by boat.

Best time to visit: June to August

11. Kakkathuruthu Island, Kerala

It is a tiny island nestled amidst the Vembanad Lake. It is accessible only by country boats located in Alappuzha district in Kerala. It is also one of the best places to spot birds. In 2016, it was included in the list of stunning destinations across the world.

12. Thinnakara Island, Lakshadweep

Thinnakara is a tiny teardrop shaped island which encompasses magnificent lagoons, sea shores, sun drenched sand and spectacular marine flora and fauna. During the nights, phosphorescent plankton washed ashore on the coral sands imparts a blue glow to the beach which is totally enchanting.
