On that note, here are 10 haunted places in Himachal Pradesh that you can visit if you are courageous enough or stay away from if you don’t want to come face to face with the supernatural. 1. Tunnel No. 33, Kalka-Shimla Train Route

This tunnel is believed to be haunted by the spirit of Captain Barog who was supposed to be responsible for the tunnel’s construction. 

Tunnel No. 33 on Kalka-Shimla train route has bagged the title of being one of the most haunted places in Himachal Pradesh. According to legend, a British engineer named Captain Barog was given responsibility of building the tunnel but he failed miserably. He was fined by the British and was humiliated so, he killed himself. Now, it is said that his spirit roams in the tunnel, in the hope of building a friendly bond with people who notice him. This instance has been reported by many. There are some people who also claim to have noticed a woman running and screaming into the tunnel and vanishing into thin air. 


2. Charleville Mansion, Shimla

This old mansion is said to be haunted by the spirits of Englishmen. 

This century-old mansion was built during the British Era and it was rented out to a British officer, Victor Bayley and his wife in 1913. When they started staying here, the locals warned them about this house being haunted. One day, the officer also came across a locked room in the mansion which was considered to be haunted. When he opened the door to check, the room was totally shattered. Soon, the couple realized that they were being haunted by a poltergeist. It is believed that this house is haunted by the ghosts of Englishmen who roam around the mansion. Currently, an Indian gentleman owns this house. He has remodeled the mansion completely but the stories of the ghosts still remain.  


3. Indira Gandhi Medical College Lakkar Bazar, Shimla

It is said that this medical institute is haunted by the spirits of all those patients who died in the hospital.

This is the largest medical institute in Himachal Pradesh that is now believed to be haunted by the spirits of patients who died in the hospital. People and visitors have complained about hearing vague noises and weird sounds. Many people also claim to have been pushed down the stairs by an invisible entity. Visitors often claim to feel a sense of heaviness while visiting the medical institute.  


4. Kasauli Graveyard

Visitors have reportedly seen spirits roaming around in the graveyard and hearing whispers, inexplicable noises and screams at night. 

This graveyard, situated on the road to Shimla is known to be a famous site for paranormal activities. A number of unusual incidents have been reported here. People have complained about seeing spirits roaming around in the graveyard at night and they have also complained about hearing strange noises, whispers and cries. No one dares to visit the graveyard after sunset. 


5. Castle Naggar 

Eye witnesses claim to hear different voices of people talking and objects moving without any apparent reason, in this building.

There is an old castle-like building on Naggar road which was built during the British Era, but, now it is believed to be haunted. This abandoned castle was once occupied by the kings and queens during the British Era. A number of unusual activities have been reported here. People have reportedly heard different voices of people talking and they have also witnessed objects move. However,  these spirits are said to be harmless. 


6. The Chudail Baudi

According to reports, a woman clad in white is seen asking for a lift, on this route. 

The Chudail Baudi lies between Shimla highway and Chotta Shimla. According to reports, this road is haunted by the spirit of a woman dressed in white who asks for a lift. They claim that the woman sits in the car even if she is refused help. Then, she constantly stares at the driver and distracts them. This incident has led to a lot of fatal accidents. Passersby have also complained about their vehicles slowing down or coming to a halt, when on this route. Locals blame the spirit of the woman for all the accidents and the strange incidents that have taken place. 


7. House of Dukhani 

Locals believe that this mansion is haunted by the spirit of an old man who killed himself here. 

The House of Dukhani was once a gorgeous mansion but, now it is known to be haunted by the spirit of an old man dressed in a white gown. It is believed that an old man named Bucky shot himself on this property. Passersby have complained about feeling the presence of a negative energy and some have also complained about feeling uneasy and dizzy. 

8. Convent of Jesus & Mary, Chotta Shimla

According to legend, a headless horseman offers flowers to the girls in the convent on Friday, the 13th and anyone who refuses to accept the flowers is killed by him. 

It is said that the innocent girls are taken away by the headless horseman if they accept the flowers and if they refuse to take the flowers, they are killed by him. Locals also believe that the existing school playground is built over a burial ground of children who were killed in a fire mishap. 


9. The Kingal Road, Shimla 

Strange lightning occurs on this road without any reason. Locals believe that it might be caused due to the presence of a spirit.  

This road might look like any other road in the hill stations but, strange lightning occurs here after sunset, around 2 AM every night. This incident has been reported by many people but, no one knows how or why such lightning occurs. Some believe that this is a scientific phenomena but, nothing can be said for sure. 


10. IGMC Road 

Locals believe that the spirit of an orange seller still wanders around, on this road adjacent to the medical college.

This road, located near Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla is known to be haunted by the spirit of an orange seller who used to sell his oranges on this very road. It is believed that he was killed in a car accident and now, his spirit still lingers around.
