For all the progress we’ve made as a race, we humans have somehow still not cracked the most basic principle of existence – harmony with other living beings. Be it violence against fellow humans, or cruelty to every species under the sun, humans have famously and often displayed less kindness and respect for life than any rationale would expect from a race with an undeniably developed consciousness.

In another tragic instance of human cruelty, a New Delhi driver ran over an unassuming puppy, killing it on the spot, and crushing another puppy’s leg in the process.

This man driving at a leisurely pace in Vasant Kunj, Sector B didn’t think it necessary to come to an easy halt to spare the lives of a couple of little puppies that were playing on the street. The CCTV camera footage of the area reveals that the assailant was not driving at a high speed and saw the dogs clearly in his path before heartlessly mowing them down.

An animal cruelty complaint was reportedly lodged at the Vasant Kunj North police station two days ago, but no FIR was made. It has been claimed that only after considerable insistence, the cops even agreed to visit the scene of this monstrosity and to examine it for the legitimate violation of sections 428 and 429 of the IPC that it is.

For the sake of humanity, I hope the culprit is brought to justice. If we’re unable to come together to defend life, when life needs defending against injustice, then we must reconsider our values as a race.
