We live in an age where women empowerment is big. It has become a buzzword of this century, to be honest.
We talk about women working alongside men in all spheres. We talk about how they are increasingly gaining control over their lives. We talk about beating patriarchy in a society that still struggles with the idea of women standing up for themselves.
We talk about all of this and yet, there are things, shameful things, that are still happening around us, all the time, that stand in the face of all that talk, ridiculing it like it’s all a joke.
Last night, a woman witnessed something that will shake you up in and out. This happened in Hauz Khas Village in the heart of the capital. Here is the story told by the woman herself.
Yes, the men had come with the intention to pick up a girl, rape and murder her. And no police personnel or onlookers came to the rescue, despite a police bandobast in the area.
This is chilling, to say the least.
These were guys who very methodically had a plan to abduct & rape a woman. They weren’t doing it on impulse. They came here for this. They looked like they knew what they were doing. HKV is a place where lots of women come & get drunk esp Wednesdays coz ladies nights.
ScoopWhoop tried to reach out to the girl and she told us that no one from the police had contacted her since the incident came to light.
This is alarming. Does it mean women should lock themselves in because a few men think they own her?
What a pity indeed! Where is the police and where is the government now?
These are the questions, we women, ask ourselves every day before we step out at night. Are we really safe?
