Referring to the alleged mass molestation of women on New Year’s eve in Bengaluru, Karnataka’s Home Minister G Parameshwara has shocked everyone claiming “such incidents do happen on New Year day and on Christmas”.

As if that wasn’t enough, Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi has now gone a step further and launched a volley of sexist remarks blaming women for what happened to them.

In a statement to India Today, Azmi went on a full rant saying, ”It was bound to happen. Women call nudity fashion. They were wearing short dresses. Women should follow Indian culture and should not step out at night.”

Adding further he said, women should step out with their family members at night and not be alone. He said, “I have five daughters and I will not allow them to walk out at night without family members”.

He then dished out a bizarre analogy!

Outraged at these comments, the chief of the National Commission for Women (NCW), Lalitha Kumaramangalam, has issued summons to both Azmi and Karnataka Home Minister.

The minister’s regressive comments obviously drew a lot of flak on social media with citizens criticising him
