Dear bride to be,

If you've looked at thousands of lehengas with salesman bhaiya draping one after the other but nothing steals your heart, we have curated a list of lehanges with contemporary colours and traditional silhouettes that are perfect for a bride who wants a break from the quintessential, traditional red lehanga.

Ivory and Gold

A classic combination of elegance and grace.

When your imagination bears the fruition in exactitude, you feel that euphoric excitement. Our year-long brainstorming to realize a wedding I wished since my childhood, really made us sweat bullets at many moments. From picking all the elements in the moodboards to closing on the décor and all other arrangements for #Kabanng wedding, I am indebted to @grewalsasha for her relentless support and creative genius. My sister, business partner, friend and mentor, Sasha has been instrumental in bringing alive the glory of this bespoke wedding. As a bridal designer, I keep thinking “what’s next?” and I keep coming back to khadi. Again and again. It is sophisticated, cultural and powerful. For me, khadi is equivalent to wellness and nothing can be more luxurious than that. When I look back at the last 20 years, my khadi bridal lehengas are what I am most proud of. Combined with Indian jewellery and flowers they create a very potent and timeless image. Humble, with a tinge of arrogance. Some of my most discerning customers globally have chosen to wear khadi lehengas for their wedding. Almost all of them are not on Instagram. Pity! Seascapes have been an integral part of destination weddings. A sense of informal celebration, casual glamour and ease is the new vibe of such weddings, which are often intimate and small. Unorthodox colours and a sense of whimsy often dominate people’s trousseau choices and traditions are modified to adapt to changing times! Metallic hues

Bling it on, baby!

From the Right Bank to the bylanes of Chowringhee. Smoky rooms, brooding eyes and the sensuous sway of gold tinsel. Society ladies, impoverished artists, soldiers at war and poets in debt. Languid bodies swaying to jazz, rivers of ecstasy running wild, diamonds entangled in enraptured orgies of sequinned gossamer-clad nubile limbs. Raise a drunken toast to unapologetic glamour and hedonistic style. The lady wears the ‘Warq’ lehenga in ultra-glamorous Brazilian coffee and burnt gold. A gilded coffee ‘Aakash-tara’ dupatta, centre-parted sleek hair, nude makeup, our iconic ‘Subhanallah’ uncut diamond earrings and a tiny bindi gives it a very modern oriental-occidental look. At Sabyasachi, we specialise in cross-cultural weddings across the world. Often we meet Indian brides getting married to men from different global communities. The forever dilemma is to find a middle path between tradition and cultural appropriation. Especially when you are getting married in environments and settings alien to one’s culture. The Renaissance bride in a smoky nude and silver hand-embroidered lehenga and a gossamer veil splattered with Benarasi buttis in hand-beaten silver. The look is perfected with barely-there makeup, centre parted hair and a stunning necklace and earring set with 151 carats of pure Golconda diamonds.
