“I did try and fuck her, she was married.”
“I moved on her like a bitch.”
“I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her.”
“I just start kissing them, it’s like a magnet.”
“I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star they let you do it … Grab them by the pussy.”
“You can do anything.”
These were the words uttered by the man currently running for president of the United States of America.
Till now, we knew that Donald Trump was only outrageously disrespectful towards women in general.
Finally, he can be seen as a legitimate threat to them.
In light of these shocking comments, conveniently dismissed as “locker room banter” that took place several years ago (if only time could diminish the magnitude of disasters), Trump has stirred a mammoth social evil, stemming from the very ugly and unintelligible mentality that he maintains.
After the leaked evidence of Trump talking about how he enjoys sexually assaulting women surfaced, Kelly Oxford, a Canadian writer, wrote about her first memory of being assaulted in an act of condemnation. She encouraged others to do the same.
Following this, survivors started shattering their silence, bringing harrowing personal experiences of abuse to social media.
This eventually kick-started a powerful and liberating movement in which thousands of women gave their accounts of horrific encounters with molesters as young girls and adults, heavily berating Trump’s abominable notions regarding the treatment of women.
No censorship. Only explicit facts.
Oxford had earlier stated that if no one responded to her post, she would take it down. But on seeing the overwhelming response flooding her Twitter page, she realised the opportunity at hand to shed light on the gravity of the matter and continued sharing updates with the world.
It kept going.
The thread highlights the omnipresence of sexual abuse, and the damaging impact it has on victims. Yet, it is uplifting to see so many women unite and take a stand against further ignorance or support fostering this deeply disturbing phenomenon. This incident clearly indicates the need for greater exposure of this societal evil before any hopes of eradicating it can be entertained.
Many others offered their opinions on the trending topic.
These are the women who were abused by men of the very same mindset as Trump’s. A man who openly boasts about using force and not taking ‘no’ for an answer when making advances towards his ‘target’ is a sexual predator. The belief that it is perfectly fine to touch a woman without her consent or use force if she resists is still prevalent in the minds of millions.
And unfortunately, Donald Trump would not be the first man to believe that a celebrity status entitles him to any pussy he craves.
We live in a world where such animalistic behaviour patterns and ideas are still floating around at large. They cannot be tolerated anymore. Turning a blind eye to the problem will only make it bigger. Which is why this Twitter exchange was a winning move in every way and an inspiration to women everywhere.
