If you were driving on the roads of your city, you must have come across several cheeky billboards with pop cultural references.
Zomato as part of their ongoing outdoor campaign has been receiving a lot of praise for their witty creatives.
Now, while the creatives were generally appreciated, there was this one particular ad that did not sit well with some people.
Shame on you @ZomatoIN ! Absolutely shameful what you’ve attempted to do. Your investors should be sickened by your behaviour! @smritiirani : this is outrageous. @ascionline pic.twitter.com/pSChhHSrxo— SUHEL SETH (@suhelseth) November 30, 2017
So the PR bandwagon of Zomato's new outdoor campaign is rolling. Expectedly, it ignores the outrage against its MC BC creative. And we wonder about why sexism is alive and kicking. So much for apparently being a category *leader*. pic.twitter.com/XlGsLBsVOT— Ashok Lalla (@ashoklalla) November 30, 2017
.@Zomato Pretty cheeky but low ball campaign.. this is not chutzpah.. this is Idiotic and sanctifying an expletive used commonly but never with intent of interpretation!! Sad what one does to be noticed !! #BeBetter✔️ pic.twitter.com/LagXBrQuj0— Pradeep Dwivedi (@PradeepDwivedi) November 30, 2017
Honestly this is regressive advertising. i saw another v sickly regressive ad from camlin marker pens. what's wrong ppl? can't we have advertisements which don't sound crass and can be enjoyed by all age groups?— Gauri Pokhariyal (@gauripokhariyal) November 30, 2017
Well, truth be told, Twitter is still divided over it and many have come in support of the ad.
Zomato is killing it with their hoardings. Neat 👍🏻 pic.twitter.com/WTYfw4DJkS— Jayesh Ughade (@jayeshughade) November 28, 2017
It's all about your thinking. MC and BC are just two english alphabets brought together and used as an acronym for Mac n Cheese and Butter chicken. You need to change your thinking sir! @AksharPathak— Akshay Narkar (@AkiDoiT) November 30, 2017
Meanwhile, Pankaj Chaddah, co-founder of Zomato, also came out and apologised for the sentiments the ad had hurt and said that it would be taken down with immediate effect.
Let us know what you think.
