When it comes to a woman’s desires – sexual or otherwise – the conversations in India are rather hush-hush. Big cities or small, women aren’t ever allowed to express themselves, follow their heart or live the kind of lives they’d want. And these women end up spending their entire lives, on someone else’s terms.

But what if women decided to secretly live out their dreams and desires?

In this delightful new film, Lipstick Under My Burkha, director Alankrita Shrivastava is exploring just that. Set in Bhopal, the film explores the lives of four women – a college girl who wants to be a pop singer, a beautician who wants to elope with her lover, an oppressed housewife leading an alternate life as a saleswoman and a 55-year-old widow who’s rediscovering her sexuality with a younger man.

The film is about these women finding themselves and in a way, teaching everyone to live out their dream, even if that requires breaking traditions.

Produced by Prakash Jha, the films stars Ratna Pathak Shah, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aahana Kumra, Plabita Borthakur, Sushant Singh and Vikrant Massey in the lead.

Judging by the trailer, these women look like they’re up to a whole lot of fun. And isn’t living out the life you’ve always wanted just that?
