Rowling's magic has moved on from the verdant landscapes of the English countrside to bang in the middle of the skyscraper-lined city of 1920s New York where Eddie Redmayne, in the form of the dishevelled-haired magiczoologist Newt Scamander is seen scurrying through the streets chasing after his magical creatures who have presumably escaped from his expansive brown suitcase.
As with all Harry Potter movies, Rowling generously endows the screenplay with a host of impressive magical creatures wreaking chaos throughout the city. There are darker, more threatening forces who threaten to clash as Newt Scamander tries to gather his magical creatures back for their own safety and that of others.
The head of the American wizarding community, Seraphina Picquery in her elaborate head-dress reveals that trouble is around the corner, while the 'no-majs' or muggles are becoming increasingly aware of the presence of the magical community (since creatures are tearing apart their city) and seem determined to eliminate them.
Meanwhile Colin Farrell's character seems to have a sinister plot afoot as Newt Scamander and his 'no-majs' friend fall headlong into the world of magical creatures like the Demiguise, the silver haired orangutan who can go invisible, cute Nifflers rapidly feeding their fetish for shiny things and the Occamy, which looks like a menacing dragon-bird hybrid.
