The trailer for Ajay Devgn, Kajol, and Saif Ali Khan starrer, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, released and it appears eerily similar to every Hindi period-drama film trailer.
Based on the life of Tanaji Malusare, a military leader in the Maratha Empire, the film leads up to the famous Battle of Sinhagad in 1670.
Saif Ali Khan plays the role of Uday Bhan, a general in Aurganzeb's (played by Luke Kenny) army, while Ajay Devgn is playing the titular role of Tanaji Malusare.
And while Saif Ali Khan's restrained brand of villainry is definitely intriguing, the trailer just appears to be like every other period-drama film trailer, the most recent being Arjun Kapoor's Panipat.
A dance sequence, an elaborate VFX effect, a rousing speech by the hero, a self-sacrificial dialogue by the wife, and a dramatic threat by the villain - combine all this with powerful theme music and war cry, and your period-drama trailer is ready to be served.
*Also, why are all villains dressed in black only?*
Only time will tell if 2020's multiple historical offerings turn out to be entertaining or aggravating, but the trailers certainly seem to blend into each other. Much like the time when Bollywood was gripped by the theme of 'freedom fighters' and we had three movies on one freedom fighter, Bhagat Singh.

The movie releases on January 10, 2020. All images are screenshots from the trailer unless specified otherwise.
