We might be halfway through the year, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. And by fun, I mean the blood-curdling screams, the knots in your stomach, and the innumerable jump scares that scary movies afford. 2019’s still got some fright in it!

1. Annabelle Comes Home – June 26

Ed and Lorraine Warren are back in the picture. Having finally captured the possessed Annabelle doll, they lock it in their artefacts room in the hope of containing its power. Instead, the doll activates all the other evil spirits in the room, leading to another night of terror for the ghost hunters.

2. Darlin’ – July 12

Darlin’ is a standalone sequel to the 2011 film The Woman, and is about a completely feral teenager who is taken into the church to be cared for. There, they try to convert her into an obedient ‘good girl’, but things don’t exactly go as planned.

3. Crawl – July 12

In case you weren’t aware, there’s an urban legend that Florida has giant alligators in its sewers. Well this movie takes that myth, combines it with an injured father-daughter duo trapped in a hurricane-hit house, and adds a bit of claustrophobia for good measure. Florida, am I right?

4. Brahms: The Boy II – July 26

The sequel to 2016’s The Boy, this film follows a young family that moves to the Heelshire’s residence. When their son finds a doll that looks strangely human, things start to get chilling, especially if you don’t follow the doll’s rules.

5. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark — August 9

When a group of young teens chance upon a creepy mansion and an even creepier book of stories, little do they know that things are about to get terrifying. As the stories from the book start coming to life, the residents of the town of Mill Valley have to face their worst nightmares.

6. 47 Meters Down: Uncaged – August 16

The sequel to Mandy Moore’s 47 Meters Down follows 4 women as they dive to explore the underwater caves of a ruined city. Unfortunately for them, the claustrophobic maze is also home to the deadliest shark species in the world.

7. It Chapter Two — September 6

If you thought you’d seen the last of Pennywise the clown, think again. 27 years after the events of the first film, the kids of Derry are reunited in an effort to bring down the scariest clown of all time (and possibly deal with an extremely creepy grandma).

8. Doctor Sleep — November 8

The long-awaited sequel to the 1980 horror masterpiece The Shining, this film follows a grown-up Dan Torrance, traumatised by his past and struggling with alcoholism. He has all but given up his ‘shining’ ability, that is until he meets a teenage girl with the same abilities who is being hunted by an evil cult.

9. Black Christmas – December 13

A remake of the 1974 film of the same name, this movie is about sorority girls in the Hawthorne College campus being killed off one by one. However, the unknown stalker doesn’t realise that these women won’t go down without a fight.

10. The New Mutants – August 1

A superhero horror movie based in the X-Men world? Might be cool. This film follows Magik, Wolfsbane and other teenage mutants staying in a secret facility that seems to really be messing with their sense of reality. There’s not much information around what’s actually happening in the film, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

The rest of 2019 just got a lot more creepy.
