Once a demilitarized zone, Siachen became a zone of conflict between India and Pakistan since 'Operation Meghdoot' in 1984.
As speculated earlier, the glacier will now be accessible for tourists in India as well as from across the globe.

Confirming the news during the inauguration of Colonel Chewang Rinchen Bridge at Shyok River in Ladakh on Monday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that the entire area has been re-opened only for tourism purposes.
Ladakh has tremendous potential in Tourism. Better connectivity in Ladakh would certainly bring tourists in large numbers.

The Siachen area is now open for tourists and Tourism. From Siachen Base Camp to Kumar Post, the entire area has been opened for Tourism purposes.
Rajnath Singh further believed Ladakh has tremendous potential for tourism.
He concluded, saying:
