According to NDTV, 11 men have been arrested and two police officers have been suspended for allegedly conspiring to attack and kill a 24-year-old man, named Tabrez Ansari, last week.
The mob forced Tabrez to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram‘ and then beat him up for hours before handing him over to the police, where he fell unconscious & later died.
In the latest development, a special investigation team (SIT) has been asked to submit its full report to the Home Secretary & Chief Secretary by Wednesday, 26 June.
According to NDTV, two officers, Chandramohan Oraon & Bipin Bihari were also suspended after the police accepted lapses in their investigation procedure & claimed they failed to file an FIR on the same day.
Ansari was travelling with a group of friends from Jamshedpur to Saraikela-Kharsawan Karsova, when they were attacked barely five kilometres from home.
Speaking to NDTV, Superintendent of Police Karthik S said:
We are looking into all angles. His family members mentioned some unidentified miscreants in their complaint. Based on that, we have already arrested eleven people, including a man named Papu Mandal.
Being the 11th victim of mob lynching in 2019, Tabrez is survived by his wife who broke down saying, “I have no one, how will I live?”
The opposition Congress party in the state has demanded ₹25 lakh compensation and a government job for his wife.
Further, Hyderabad politician Asaduddin Owaisi spoke to ANI, saying:
