UP Director General of Police O.P. Singh has said,

A primary probe suggests it was purely an accident caused by a speeding truck. The truck driver and owner have been arrested. If the family demands a CBI inquiry into the case, we’ll hand over the case to the CBI. There was no negligence in her security. She requested the personnel deputed for security not to accompany her to Raebareli yesterday because of lack of space in the vehicle

The minor girl’s mother has termed the incident a ‘conspiracy‘ to wipe out her entire family.

It was not an accident but a conspiracy to eliminate all of us. The son of a co-accused in the case, Shashi Singh, and another youth of the village had threatened us. They said that they will deal with us.

2 days after the accident, a letter written by her family to the Supreme Court has come out. In the letter dated 12 July, the rape survivor’s mother, sister and aunt alleged that they were being constantly threatened by Sengar’s men.  They said that Sengar’s brother Manoj Singh and his accomplice Shashi Singh’s husband and son had come to their home and threatened them with dire consequences if they don’t withdraw their case against the MLA.
