Sadly, the Bollywood award shows still have a lot of catching up to do.

From presenting awards to films that shouldn’t have even been in the category (Golmaal Again – need I say more!) to inventing awards that made no sense, Bollywood award shows have been making a mockery of actual talent for a long time. 

But finally, it seems there is one award show that decided to actually acknowledge sensible cinema and great acting. Yes, the News18 REEL Movie Awards have reinstated our faith in Bollywood award shows – at least partially! 

Awarding artists with actual talent instead of pandering to ‘stars’, the REEL Awards showed how Bollywood awards SHOULD actually be done! 

Here are the rightful winners that were duly awarded:

Best Film: Mukti Bhawan

Best Director: Amit Masurkar for Newton

Best Actor (Male): Irrfan Khan for Hindi Medium

Best Actor (Female): Ratna Pathak Shah for Lipstick Under My Burkha

Best Breakthrough Actor of the Year (Male): Rajkummar Rao

Best Supporting Actor (Male): Pankaj Tripathi for Newton

Best Supporting Actor (Female): Meher Vij for Secret Superstar

Award shows are meant to celebrate actual talent and not stardom & finally, there’s one awards show that has got it right!
