There’s a new condom in town. And no it’s not another strange flavour no one asked for. It’s a literal condom that can only be used by 2 consenting partners.

Created by Argentinian adult toy company Tulipán , The ‘consent condom’ requires two people or four hands to open. One can only access the condom by simultaneously pressing the four points on its outer packet.

Joaquin Campins of BBDO, the ad agency responsible for marketing the condom said,
Tulipán has always spoken of safe pleasure but for this campaign we understood that we had to talk about the most important thing in every sexual relationship — pleasure is possible only if you both give your consent. If it’s not a yes, it’s a no.

This is a genuinely great leap in condom innovation. Because, historically speaking, condom manufacturers aren’t the best when it comes to giving us what we need.
When we asked to lessen the hush-hush-ness around it and make it more acceptable, we got R-rated ads that can only air post 11 pm.

When we asked for better quality and variety (NOT flavours), we got this:

Currently in its testing phase, the condom is being distributed in bars and events in Argentina. It has been receiving positive responses overall and hopefully it will be rolled out soon.
It’s definitely a good gesture for both parties who are engaged in such activities. I think it’s difficult to cut down on non-consensual sexual acts by creating physical material to restrict and prevent. A couple of years ago, “anti-rape pants” were a thing. This is positive imo.
