What is the video trying to say? Is it hinting at what we think it’s hinting at? 

A video by The Obama Foundation is causing much excitement, speculation, memes & conspiracy theories surrounding possible political returns for Barack Obama, with gup on the internet about him making a comeback as President of the United States. 

The video is quite short, has an ordinary feel to it, and is relatively innocent. However, there is an interesting phrase, “I’ve got some unfinished business,” that has sparked many ideas on social media as to whether there is a way for the former President of the United States to return to power! 

SCREAMINGGGGG INNN DISBELIEF!!! 

Theories may seem like a long shot, but improbable theories on the internet often develop their own universe. 

The video that had everyone go…”hmm, sus” 

The video released by The Obama Foundation, in mid-March, has a cinematic kind of tone. 

It looked like the hero’s entry in a typical KJO universe, ngl. 

Inside the video, Barack Obama is sitting and all of a sudden, he receives multiple notifications on his phone. As the notifications continue to come, someone behind the camera tells President Obama of how excited they are to discuss the upcoming Presidential Center, which is a long-awaited cultural and civic center being constructed in Chicago.

Obama acknowledges the comment but continues with, “Got it”. Then he looks back at his phone and says the infamous line that is the basis for the internet’s imagination: “Hold on one second…I cannot believe I’m still working on this… I have some unfinished business.”

SIR WHAT? 

Then he stands up and walks towards a window.

This video was released with a cryptic subtitle: 👀 “Any guesses, fam?” This short subtitle has created a snowball effect, with thousands of people posting comments about their interpretations of the video.

Internet Starts An Investigation 

The ripple effect was insane, with people trying to figure out if there is something to be read from between the lines. 

Looking at the comments, we can say that people used 100% of their brain baahhahaha. 

“Unfinished business” was interpreted by many as being a subtle nod towards the 2028 U.S. presidential election. Others believed that the notifications on Obama’s phone represented a return from the public back to being in a position of leadership. 

As one user put it: 

“@BarackObama. Don’t you want to save the USA and be president again?”

Another commented: 

“My heart leapt for joy! Please tell me he is coming back.” 

Then memes popped left and right, some had Obama coming back for a big showdown with the current President of the United States, Donald Trump, in the 2028 presidential election.

Others joked about how they would ask Alexa to play “My President” by Young Jeezy if Obama announced he would run again.

And yeah….it quickly became a digital game of guessing.

Wait..Obama can’t contest the election legally? 

Though there was so much excitement surrounding this theory on the internet, there is one big obstacle that needs to be considered! 

The 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution prohibits anyone from being elected to serve more than 2 elected terms in the same office. 

The 22nd Amendment was adopted in part because President Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected 4 times as U.S. president, and Congress wanted to restrict the use of one person to hold on to power. 

Barack Obama served two full terms (the 44th President of the United States) from 2009 – 2017. 

Therefore according to the current rule of law, Mr. Obama cannot run for president again. It would be extremely hard to amend the Constitution to allow a third term for Obama, as it would require the approval of Congress by a 2/3 majority, and then at least 3/4 of state legislatures would have to approve the change – very unlikely to happen in any case.

From a legal standpoint, it is impossible for Obama to serve as president again, so all of the speculation of him serving a 3rd term is based solely upon assumptions. 

Nonetheless, Conspiracy Theories Persist

However, the internet is always full of all kinds of conspiracy theories that go into far greater depth than this.

Recently, we saw some commentary on the internet that claims to have found some obscure historical discussions about whether it is possible for a former twice-elected President to be elected Vice President and then be selected again by the Vice President of a different administration to serve another term in the White House. 

Although, we think it is very doubtful this could be done from a legal perspective. There is very limited legal precedent regarding whether or not this theory is valid.

But we have to say one thing, Obama bhai ka charm and aura no. 1. 

Even though he left office approximately nine years ago, he still ranks among the top political figures globally. He tends to draw very large crowds at his speeches/book signings/public engagements across the globe.

If that isn’t the flex of a lifetime, we don’t know what is. 

The President of the United States, President Trump, just assumed his second, non-consecutive term in 2024. 

November 7, 2028 is the day of the next United States presidential election and voters will vote for the 61st President of the United States.
